Behavioral Health Counselor
GREAT LOCATION: HIKING IN THE REDWOOD FOREST AND SURFING ALONG THE COAST.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Counsels individuals or groups regarding psychological or emotional problems such as stress, substance abuse, or family situations and develops and implements therapeutic treatment plan in strength-based model. Provides behavioral health services to American Indian communities by providing assessments, referrals and treatment to UIHS clients by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Intern and Level I:
- Provide direct behavior health services to American Indian individuals, families, groups and communities, under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Clinical Director.
- Provide crisis counseling as needed and outreach counseling to community settings such as schools, juvenile hall, Rancheria’s, home visits, and other settings as assigned by the Behavior Health Clinical Director.
- Provide specialized counseling groups or classes for parenting classes, depression, grief, anger management, teen issues or on other topics within the scope of license and training.
- Participate in weekly case review meetings.
- Supply case files including assessments, treatment plans and progress notes and other reporting and statistical data in a timely manner as required by the law, department and agency.
- Use Next Gen’s Electronic Health Record system for case files.
- Discusses and review progress toward goals with client such treatment plan as required.
- Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling, as indicated.
- Attend section meetings and other assigned meetings.
- Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines
- Performs other training and job related activities mandated required by the Behavioral Health Clinical Director
- Maintains a professional organized clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards
- Assists in development of departmental policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the clinic as directed.
Level II:
- Periodically provide community mental health presentations or stress management workshops specialized in-service training to the community or UIHS staff/board.
- Provides supervision as assigned.
- Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interns: Must have completed a Masters Degree Program and possess an Intern license and be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Level I: Must possess a clinical license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have some clinical experience.
- Level II: Must possess a license as stated above and have 2 years licensed experience. Supervises MFT interns and/or Associate Social Worker (ASW), as required, and is qualified as a Board of Behavioral Sciences approved supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Intern: The individual must have completed a Master's Program in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field and be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
- Level I: Licensed Intern, LCSW, MFT, or PhD with some clinical experience.
- Level II: Licensed for over two years, with some clinical experience qualified to supervise Interns and ASW’s.
- Commitment to the provision of counseling services to American Indians for all levels.
Annual Salary Depending on Experience: $40,518 to $60,569
