Community Health and Wellness Committee (CHAWC)
The Community Health and Wellness Committee (CHAWC) is committed to promoting wellness and assisting in the development of health education programs and materials for the American Indian community. The committee is responsible for the set up of activities that promote health throughout the service area.

Corporate Compliance Committee
The purpose of the Compliance Committee is to provide tactical leadership to the compliance program. This includes identifying organizational high risk areas, initiating internal audits and reviewing the results of internal investigations. The Committee is comprised of a cross-functional team from operating units with high-risk compliance issues such as accreditation, licensing, employment, client records, environmental health and safety, tax laws, and facilities.

Diabetes Planning Committee
The Diabetes Program at United Indian Health Services, Inc. (UIHS) started in the early 1990's. This program was established to address the rising rate of diabetes in the American Indian community. As of 2004, American Indians have the highest rate (14.9 15%) of diabetes throughout the world. Through several grants from Indian Health Services, UIHS fights the battle with diabetes on several fronts focusing primarily on treatment of people with diabetes and prevention. The function of the Diabetes Program is to design, implement and evaluate diabetes intervention and prevention programs through education, activities, and services that are community based, while also assuring the Diabetes Standards of Care are met.

Elections Committee
The Election Committee is responsible for the annual United Indian Health Services (UIHS) election of Indian Community Representatives to the UIHS Board of Directors according to the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and Election Policy.

Executive Governance/Personnel Committee
Executive Governance/Personnel Committee is responsible for dealing with critical issues that confront UIHS when action or review is required by the UIHS Board of Directors. Executive Governance/Personnel Committee has the powers which are specifically delegated to it by the Board of Directors, and all actions or decisions of the Executive Governance/Personnel Committee shall be presented to the Board of Directors at their next meeting for ratification.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee of the Board of Directors is constituted under Article VII, Section 2a of the Bylaws of the United Indian Health Services, Inc. The Committee’s primary function shall be to assist the Board of Directors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities of: (A) The adequacy of UIHS’ internal controls and financial reporting process and its financial statements. (B) The quality, independence, and performance of its external auditors, and UIHS’ compliance with appropriate legal and regulatory requirements.

Financial Audit Committee
The Financial Audit Committee of the Board of Directors was established pursuant to comply with the requirements of the California Nonprofit Integrity Act of 2004. In addition, the Committee will follow the intent of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 when such intent is relevant.

Governing Documents Review Committee
United Indian Health Services (UIHS) is a nonprofit corporation organized pursuant to the laws of the State of California in 1970. At the time of organization, the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws were enacted by the original founders. The UIHS Governing Documents Review Committee has the responsibility to review the governing documents each year and to recommend proposed changes to the UIHS Board of Directors.

Patient Registration & Contract Health Committee
The Patient Registration and Contract Health Service (CHS) Committee is responsible for ensuring compliance with UIHS requirements relating to client eligibility for direct care services and contract health care services. In addition, the committee makes recommendations to the UIHS Board of Directors regarding eligibility of clients within this framework, client access issues, and the administration of the CHS program at UIHS.

Planning & Self Determination Committee
UIHS has been incorporated since 1970 and has completed over thirty-five (35) years of continuous operation to provide a frame work for planning, directing, coordinating, providing, and improving health care services in response to community and patient needs. This committee will have the responsibility for planning the coming years on both the short term and long term basis.
The committee will work with key staff and consultants(s) at the clinic to decide the future needs of eligible Indians in the UIHS service area and decide what types of services and facilities are necessary in this regard to meet that need. That responsiveness includes dealing with the Self Determination process and the issues that affect heath care. The committee addresses issues that are unique to the American Indians that live in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. As the federally recognized tribes deal with the health issues for their people, it is essential that open communication remains among all those people involved. This committee includes tribal government representatives and Indian community representatives.

Special Events Committee
.The Special Events Committee has the responsibility for planning and coordinating the major events that UIHS Board Governance Committees initiates and provides guidance to other UIHS events. Current major events may include art shows, community events, and the Annual Board and Staff meeting. The Special Events Committee also has the responsibility for planning and coordinating UIHS’ participation in other events and activities when needed.

Traditional Resources Advisory Committee (TRAC)
United Indian Health Services, Inc. recognizes the importance of traditional beliefs, practices, and ceremonies in the healing of the body, mind and spirit. UIHS understands that "all things" contribute to the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the individual, the family, and the community. Traditional philosophies of local tribes centered around the belief that wellness is achieve through the balance of "all things" in our lives. UIHS encourages a climate of respect, acceptance, responsibility and acceptance in which traditional beliefs are honored.
The Traditional Resources Advisory Committee (TRAC) was established in 2003 and this committee provides guidance and oversight for the Ku' wah-dah-wilth Restoration Area (KRA), Traditional Resources and Community Nutrition with the understanding that all things are connected. Through the work of these three programs, TRAC supports preventative health activities for attaining wellness that go beyond physical health. This is based on the undestanding that the "Health of the Enviroment = Health of the People."
